Online subscriptions, ecommerce development and a custom design
Wilderness Magazine is an award winning New Zealand publication committed to promoting healthy outdoor activities, associated outdoor equipment and environmental conservation. Each month features stunning places and areas to visit, articles on various activities and information on the latest equipment and products available.
View SiteWilderness Magazine had an existing WordPress site on which they published select articles and content. The Fold were brought in to build a replacement WordPress site with magazine and online subscriptions. A paywall was to be used to restrict content to subscribers. Gear reviews, trip reports with interactive maps and an online store were part of the project.
Flexible Design Templates
One of the key requirements for Wilderness was to provide a flexible layout for their articles section. It was important for the editors to have design options available that would best represent the content. We designed a selection of mobile responsive templates that could be used when publishing.
Providing an easy to manage content publishing workflow
The Wilderness admin area was customized so that we could expand beyond the standard Posts & Pages. We introduced Trips and Gear Reviews as custom types of content. This makes it incredibly easy for the editors to add / manage articles, pages, gear and trip reviews, knowing each content type has its place in the admin area. On top of that – we also templated these content types with custom fields to take the guess work out of formatting and provide a consistent look across published content – no matter who was publishing.
Paid Subscriptions, Content Memberships
& WooCommerce
The Wilderness shop has been built using WooCommerce, the most customizable eCommerce platform for building your online business. We have created a beautiful and efficient store where customers can easily find what they want. From magazine subscriptions to books and maps, Wilderness online shop was created with not only the end customer in mind, but Wilderness team themselves, to add as many products as needed without a fuss and in no time at all.
